Andrew Soulsby
B/Mus(Hons) DipABRSM PGCE
Andrew is a music graduate of the University of Huddersfield, a pupil of Sophie Yates, John Bryan and David Murray, now working as a freelance musician with over 25 years experience as a harpsichordist, pianist, conductor and singer. For the past six years he has been working largely as a teacher, accompanist and Musical Director in musical theatre. Andrew is based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Andrew began as an accompanist to Northern Opera in 1998 and has gone on to work for all of the region’s top theatre companies. Andrew recently worked as MD for the Tyne Theatre Christmas panto 'Beauty & the Beast' (Enchanted Entertainment) and on the North East tour of 'Twist & Shout' (CS Productions) and the national premier of 'Baby Love' (Baby Love Productions).
Much in demand as a harpsichordist, Andrew has worked with performers including Pavlo Beznosiuk, Rachel Stroud and The London Camerata. He is also a keen recitalist, and can often be heard in performances across the North East, most notably giving a lockdown recital for the National Trust at Seaton Delaval Hall in 2021 which reached an audience of over 4000. Andrew is a firm believer in furthering his own education. He continues to study harpsichord with Sophie Yates and recently began learning the Baroque lute with Martin Eastwell.
As a singer, Andrew worked professionally as a Tenor Lay Clerk with Newcastle Cathedral Choir, singing five choral services per week, and performing across the country in venues including Edinburgh, Carlisle, Durham, Chester and St Paul’s Cathedral, London. He now works as a deputy singer when time permits. In 1998, Andrew formed his own period ensemble Vox Humana to explore choral and orchestral music of the Renaissance and Baroque. Combining his love of theatre and Classical music, his innovative style of blending actors, musicians and dialogue in his concert programming saw their concert 'Music & the Armada' make The Independent's nationally recommended concert list in 2004. Andrew also runs two choirs as part of the 'Silver' programme at the Sage, Gateshead.
Andrew is a passionate educator and teaches students of all ages and abilities from his own studio, 1685 Piano & Harpsichord Tuition, in North Shields.
